A2P Certification: Lock Stars and BP1, BP2, BP3 Door Sets
A2P has two distinct rating systems: stars for complete locks, and BP1, BP2 or BP3 for complete door sets. Check the exact product reference and certificate before choosing your equipment.
What does A2P certification measure?
CNPP certifies defined assemblies: a complete lock with its specified components, or a complete door set. Laboratory tests do not guarantee how long an assembly will withstand every real burglary.
BP1, BP2, BP3: Ratings for Complete Door Sets
- — A2P BP1: at least 5 minutes in laboratory tests
- — A2P BP2: at least 10 minutes in laboratory tests
- — A2P BP3: at least 15 minutes in laboratory tests
1, 2 or 3 Stars: Ratings for Complete Locks
A complete lock may be certified A2P 1, 2 or 3 stars. Its cylinder must match the certified configuration: check the compatible references on the certificate for that model.
How should you choose a configuration?

Is the A2P standard mandatory?
Applicable requirements depend on your policy and circumstances. Ask your insurer which protections are required before installation; no premium reduction is guaranteed here.
What's the difference between BP1, BP2, and BP3?
BP1, BP2 and BP3 apply to complete door sets. Minimum resistance times in laboratory tests are 5, 10 and 15 minutes respectively; these are not guaranteed times in real conditions.
How do I check which cylinder is compatible with an A2P lock?
Check the lock certificate and the cylinder references it lists. Any component replacement must respect that certified configuration.
